State of Maryland awards Gentag seed funding

Columbia, MD – The State of Maryland through the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) announced the award of seed funding to
Gentag, Inc. for the development of wireless sensors. Gentag develops wireless sensors, active or passive, that will be integrated with the next
generation of RFID technology. These low-cost devices use mobile devices such as cell phones to become ubiquitous readers. In addition, Gentag has unique
non-GPS location technology to precisely locate sensors or sensor events. Data collected from Gentag sensors can be wirelessly transmitted to existing
cell phone networks, to the internet or to any wireless receiver allowing complex analysis and access to, and from, remote databases. Examples of Gentag
sensors include temperature, chemical, radiation, gas, pressure, stress, allergens, or medical diagnostics applications. Customers include supply-chain,
transportation, security and health-care companies among others. John Peeters, PhD. is the founder of Gentag. The firm has expertise in microelectronics,
chip design, advanced sensor development, analog/mixed signal VLSI, biomarkers, nanotechnologies and RFID (hardware and software) technologies and works
in collaboration with the University of Maryland. The mission of the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) is to create and sustain
businesses throughout the State of Maryland through the development, commercialization and deployment of technology. The goal of the Maryland Technology
Transfer Fund (MTTF) is to encourage the transfer of technology between Maryland companies and eligible federal labs or universities. The MTTF provides
investments in companies, with the company required to match the award with its own resources. MTTF awardees are required to provide 50% matching funds,
which may be either cash or in-kind resources. Funds may be used for research and development activities intended to develop a specific technology or
technology package for commercialization.
